Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 set for India launch in 2026

As part of its renewed push to strengthen its global business, Harley-Davidson has officially previewed the upcoming Sprint 440, a new entry-level motorcycle that will be manufactured in India by Hero MotoCorp. The new model forms a key part of Harley’s ‘Back to the Bricks’ strategy aimed at improving profitability and expanding the brand’s reach in emerging markets.

The American motorcycle maker has released an early design sketch of the Sprint 440, and unlike the more roadster-inspired X440 range, the new motorcycle embraces a far more traditional cruiser identity. With its stretched proportions, low-slung stance and classic Harley-inspired silhouette, the Sprint 440 appears to target riders looking for an authentic small-capacity cruiser experience.

The sketch reveals a long teardrop-shaped fuel tank flowing neatly into a scooped rider seat with a slightly raised pillion section. A chopped rear fender, tall handlebar and relaxed front-end geometry further enhance its cruiser character. Harley-Davidson is also expected to use a larger front wheel and a comparatively smaller rear wheel setup, likely contributing to the motorcycle’s laid-back stance and easier accessibility for shorter riders through a lower seat height.

Underneath the styling, the Sprint 440 is expected to share its foundations with the existing X440 models. The motorcycle will likely use the same trellis frame architecture along with the familiar 440cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. This motor currently produces 27bhp and 38Nm of torque and comes paired with a six-speed gearbox. Known for its strong low-end performance and relaxed power delivery, the engine should suit the Sprint’s cruiser-focused nature well.

While Harley-Davidson has not yet disclosed the full feature list, the Sprint 440 could benefit from the updates recently introduced on the X440 T, including improved fit and finish, ride-by-wire throttle and traction control. The company is also expected to revise the rear subframe and steering geometry to better suit the motorcycle’s relaxed ergonomics.

The Sprint 440 will be particularly significant for Hero MotoCorp, as it is expected to become the first Harley-Davidson co-developed motorcycle from India to be exported to international markets since the partnership between the two brands began in 2020.

Although an official launch timeline has not been confirmed, the Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 is expected to make its global debut later this year, with an India launch likely by the end of 2026. Pricing details remain under wraps for now, but the new cruiser is expected to be positioned above the current X440 lineup in the brand’s portfolio.
