Jaguar has taken another decisive step in its all-electric transformation by confirming the name of its forthcoming four-door GT — the ‘Type 01’. The luxury EV, which marks the beginning of Jaguar’s next-generation lineup, will make its first official public appearance later this week at the 2026 Monaco E-Prix.

The British marque says the naming strategy blends heritage with its future-focused direction. While “Type” revives a naming convention deeply rooted in Jaguar’s legacy, the “0” represents zero-emission mobility and the “1” signifies the first model in the brand’s reinvented era. Jaguar’s iconic past has featured several celebrated ‘Type’ models, including the legendary Jaguar E-Type and the race-bred Jaguar D-Type. Most recently, the now-discontinued Jaguar F-Type carried forward the badge.

The company confirmed that heavily disguised Type 01 prototypes will be showcased during the Monaco Formula E weekend on May 16 and 17, ahead of the race activities involving Jaguar TCS Racing. Jaguar says the camouflaged cars will wear a specially designed wrap featuring bold linear graphics and visible ‘Type 01’ lettering near the bonnet line.

Although the final production design remains under wraps, earlier spy shots have already hinted at the EV’s dramatic proportions. The Type 01 is expected to feature a long bonnet, a sweeping coupe-like roofline and sharply upright front and rear styling elements, giving it a distinctive grand tourer silhouette.

Underneath, the upcoming EV will ride on Jaguar’s new dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform. Performance is expected to be a major focus, with reports indicating a tri-motor setup producing close to 1,000bhp and more than 1,300Nm of torque. Jaguar is also expected to equip the GT with air suspension and twin-valve active dampers to balance high-speed performance with luxury-focused ride comfort.

The Type 01 is claimed to deliver a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 700km, positioning it among the longer-range premium EVs expected to arrive in the segment.

Jaguar describes the new model as the embodiment of its future design and engineering philosophy, combining modernist styling, advanced technology and driver-focused dynamics. The production-ready version of the Type 01 is scheduled to debut later in 2026, and it is expected to set the tone for every new Jaguar that follows.
