This compact SUV tops India's car sales chart in June 2026, Maruti dominates

India's passenger vehicle market remained SUV-led in June 2026, with the Tata Punch emerging as the country's best-selling car. Maruti Suzuki dominated the charts, placing six models among the top 10.

The Indian passenger vehicle market witnessed a familiar trend in June 2026, with SUVs and compact cars continuing to dominate buyer preferences. Tata Motors' Punch, including its electric version, emerged as the country's best-selling passenger vehicle during the month, while Maruti Suzuki occupied six of the top 10 positions.

The Tata Punch and Punch EV recorded combined sales of 21,006 units in June, comfortably leading the monthly sales charts. The model has consistently remained one of India's most popular SUVs, thanks to its compact dimensions, high ground clearance, five-star safety credentials and the availability of both petrol/CNG and electric powertrains.

Securing the second spot was the Tata Nexon, including the Nexon EV, with 18,335 units sold. The compact SUV continued to benefit from strong demand across both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric variants.

Maruti Suzuki's Dzire was the highest-selling sedan in the country, finishing third with 17,899 units. It was followed by the WagonR, which registered 16,952 units, reaffirming its popularity among hatchback buyers.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga retained its position as India's best-selling MPV after recording 16,111 units in June. The Swift, one of the country's popular hatchbacks, came in sixth with 15,215 units.

Mahindra's Scorpio range, comprising the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N, secured the seventh position with combined sales of 14,097 units, highlighting sustained demand for the rugged SUV lineup.

Maruti Suzuki's Fronx continued its strong run with 13,135 units, while the Baleno recorded 12,488 units to occupy the eighth and ninth spots, respectively.

Rounding off the top 10 was the Hyundai Venue, which posted 10,776 units, making it the only Hyundai model to feature in the list.
