Model: Kia Carens Clavis EV HTX+ ER

Test Started: April 2026/ 8,444km
Tenure/Target mileage 3 months/5,000km
Mileage This Month: 2,664km
Efficiency this month: 250km/charge

The Carens Clavis EV has been the all-rounder of our fleet. Hence, we decided to use it as our support car for a tri-city trip going from the capital to Jaipur, and then to Lucknow. Running full with four occupants, and the boot filled up of heavy equipment, the Clavis does serve as a very capable support car. The efficiency that was otherwise sitting at about 6-7km/kWh, dropped sharply to about 4.5km/kWh, that meant a highway range of just 230km.

These are under very real conditions, a fully-loaded 7-seater, temperatures hovering around 44 degrees, and the speed kept between 100-120kmph. The reduced range still wasn’t a cause for concern considering the ultra-fast chargers on our route, reality struck a bit harder. While it can charge at 100kW DC, that would take 50-odd minutes to juice it up above 90 per cent, the ambient temperatures, the battery temp, the BMS state, and other variables meant that even a 120kW charger could only manage a peak speed of 65kW that meant longer stops. Driving to the capital from Lucknow however was much better, no luggage, only one person in the car, with the efficiency rising to 6.9km/kWh, meaning we could manage the 500km journey with just one stop to top-up the Clavis, but for this one stop, we had to visit three chargers, the first charged at 18kW, the second was inoperational and the third added charge at around 40kW despite being a 60kW plug. Overall, the journey that takes 6-7 hours when taken slow, turned into a painful 12-hour task.
