Air India to resume most flights from September 1, adds more international services

According to an internal memo, the airline will restore these services from September 1, while also increasing flights on several international routes during the upcoming winter schedule, reported Reuters.
The move comes after the airline had scaled back operations in recent months because of a sharp rise in fuel prices.

The restoration is expected to improve connectivity for passengers as the airline returns closer to its regular schedule. Along with restoring services, Air India plans to increase the number of flights on several international routes during the winter season.
The airline will add more frequencies to Milan, Frankfurt, Zurich, Vienna, Melbourne, Tokyo and New York.
WHY WERE FLIGHTS REDUCED?
In May, Air India announced that it would reduce nearly 100 international flights between June and August. The decision lowered its international capacity by up to 27%.
The airline also temporarily suspended services on seven routes, including Delhi-Chicago, Delhi-Newark, Mumbai-New York, Delhi-Shanghai, Chennai-Singapore, Mumbai-Dhaka and Delhi-Male.
A few weeks later, Air India announced temporary cuts to its domestic schedule as well.
According to sources, the airline reduced 20-22% of its domestic flights during July and August. With around 3,600 domestic flights operating every week, the reduction amounted to more than 790 weekly services at the higher end of the range.
At the time, Air India said the changes were necessary because of the continued impact of high fuel prices on its operations.
The airline had also said it would keep reviewing demand and operating conditions before restoring services.
