Gujarat man dies after falling off stairs, probe reveals wife-son duo killed him
The family told doctors that the victim died after falling down the stairs, but a forensic post-mortem found strangulation marks and head injuries. Police said the findings exposed a long-running domestic dispute and led to the arrest of his wife and son.

A man in Gujarat's Ahmedabad was allegedly murdered by his wife and son following a long-running family dispute, with both accused arrested after a police investigation uncovered inconsistencies in their account of his death.
Deepak Kumar Radhanpura, a resident of Viramgam area, died on the evening of June 6 and was taken to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital by his family members. According to the family, he had suffered fatal injuries after falling down a flight of stairs at home.
However, doctors examining the body noticed multiple injury marks on different parts of his body, including his head, raising suspicion about the circumstances surrounding his death. A forensic post-mortem was subsequently ordered.
According to senior police officer Tapan Singh Dodiya, the forensic examination revealed that Deepak Kumar died due to strangulation and head injuries, ruling out an accidental fall and indicating that he had been deliberately killed.
Police then questioned the deceased's wife, 46-year-old Devyaniben, and their 22-year-old son Uday, who had brought him to the hospital. During the investigation, officers uncovered what they described as a family dispute that had been simmering for a long time.
Investigators said Deepak Kumar ran a jewellery shop, Akshar Jewellers, and frequently argued with his son over his alleged lack of involvement in the family business. The family also reportedly disagreed over Uday's engagement, with Devyaniben often siding with her son during disputes with her husband.
Viramgam Town Police Inspector S A Gadhvi said the final confrontation took place on June 6. Earlier that day, Uday had reportedly been reprimanded by his father for not coming to the jewellery shop on time. He later returned home.
When Deepak Kumar came home for lunch at around 3 pm, an argument allegedly broke out between him, his wife and son. During the altercation, Uday allegedly struck his father on the head with a wooden object, causing serious injuries.
Police alleged that Uday and his mother then strangled Deepak Kumar to death. Investigators said the two later took the body to hospital and attempted to pass off the death as an accident.
Following the forensic findings and subsequent questioning, Viramgam Town Police arrested Devyaniben and Uday on charges related to the murder. Further legal proceedings are underway.
