One person has been detained after a video showing a group of young men allegedly blocking an ambulance while performing dangerous motorcycle stunts on a Bengaluru road sparked widespread outrage on social media.
The incident reportedly took place around 2.30 am on July 4 in the Yeshwanthpur Traffic Police Station aera. According to police, the bikers created chaos along the stretch between Goraguntepalya and Yeshwanthpur by riding in a group of five to six motorcycles, performing wheelies and occupying the road, despite an ambulance attempting to pass through with its siren blaring.
The viral video, apparently recorded by an occupant of the ambulance, captures several motorcycles travelling ahead of the emergency vehicle.
Some riders are seen performing wheelies while others spread across the carriageway, preventing the ambulance from passing by.
Throughout the clip, the ambulance's flashing emergency lights illuminate the road ahead as the vehicle is forced to trail behind the bikers instead of receiving a clear passage.
The incident allegedly delayed the ambulance even though a patient was inside.
Following the circulation of the video, citizens condemned the riders' actions, calling for stringent action against those responsible for endangering lives by obstructing an emergency vehicle.
Acting on the footage, Yeshwanthpur Traffic Police launched an investigation and detained one suspect, identified as Rahul, in connection with the case. Police said three motorcycles involved in the stunt have been identified.
Officials also carried out raids at the residences of the remaining suspects.
However, they were not found during the searches, and efforts are continuing to trace and apprehend them.
Police are expected to initiate legal action against all those involved for dangerous riding, performing stunts on public roads and obstructing the movement of an emergency vehicle.
