A 23-year-old man, Vishnu, was beaten to death in Chennai's Tondiarpet after he allegedly questioned ganja sales in the area. The killing has triggered a political row, with Edappadi K Palaniswami accusing the Tamil Nadu government of failing on law and order.

A 23-year-old man was beaten to death in Chennai's Tondiarpet after he allegedly questioned the sale of ganja in his area. The victim, identified as Vishnu, was attacked by a gang on Monday. According to the information provided, the gang surrounded him and assaulted him with beer bottles, a hammer and other heavy objects.
Vishnu sustained severe injuries in the attack and was taken to Stanley Hospital for treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has triggered a political row, with AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami targeting the Tamil Nadu government and Chief Minister Vijay over the killing.
Reacting to the incident, Palaniswami questioned whether murder had become the response when someone dared to challenge the spread of narcotics. He also criticised the Chief Minister's remarks made in Tiruchirappalli and accused him of attempting to evade responsibility for maintaining law and order.
Palaniswami said the Chief Minister claimed to have appointed officials, but argued that merely appointing officials was not enough as the same officials had served under different governments. He said the change must come from those who govern and described it as disgraceful that the person in charge of the police department was trying to avoid responsibility for law and order.
The AIADMK leader further alleged that the Chief Minister had indirectly admitted his inability to eliminate the drug menace. He questioned whether people should continue to suffer and die while the government learns "how to govern" and asked whether anyone should be prevented from raising such questions.
