Six people were arrested after a clash between two groups outside a Koyambedu hotel allegedly ended with an SUV ramming a bike. The crash killed 18-year-old Yancy, a Sri Lankan Tamil refugee, and left her friend injured as police continued their investigation.

According to police, the two groups got into an altercation while dancing at a private hotel bar in Koyambedu. Bouncers intervened and asked both groups to leave the bar. However, the groups reportedly resumed their heated argument outside the hotel, prompting the bouncers to intervene again and instruct them to leave the spot.
One group left on three two-wheelers, while the other departed in an SUV. Police said the occupants of the SUV claimed that the people on the two-wheelers attempted to pelt stones at them. The SUV allegedly rammed into one of the bikes, killing 18-year-old Yancy, a Sri Lankan Tamil refugee. Her 17-year-old friend sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at Kilpauk Government Hospital.
Yancy's mother, Mary, said her daughter had just finished her Class 12 examinations and was awaiting admission to college.
Police have arrested Suman Sakthivel, Balaguru and four others in connection with the case. Further investigation is underway.
