Akriti Sutar, a 28-year-old newlywed, died after a fall from a Lodhi Colony building on Saturday evening.

Akriti Sutar, the 28-year-old newlywed who died after allegedly falling from a building in Delhi's Lodhi Colony, had allegedly faced repeated domestic abuse and pressure from her husband after their marriage, according to her family, even as police said her digital activity points to possible suicidal intent.

Akriti had married Arastu Sikka in a love marriage on April 24, 2026, less than three months before her death. Her family alleged that her husband frequently assaulted her and taunted her for "not bringing anything from her parental home" after marriage. They also claimed he repeatedly pressured her to quit her job.

According to the family, Akriti stopped going to work for a few days because of her husband's insistence. However, they alleged that the abuse continued even during that period. She resumed work from July 1.

On the day of her death, Akriti had attended office and even hosted a post-marriage celebration for her colleagues before leaving for home.

According to Delhi Police, CCTV footage showed Akriti entering the housing society alone before the incident. Officials also found that she had searched on Google at 2.22 pm on Saturday, asking whether a fall from the second floor could cause death.

Police further said her Google search history showed that in May she had also searched for "how to die easily", an aspect that is now part of the investigation.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when Akriti allegedly fell from a building at NDMC Flats, Palika Kunj, in Delhi's Lodhi Colony area.

She was rushed to AIIMS Hospital after being found critically injured, where doctors declared her dead.

Akriti, a resident of Pushp Vihar, worked as a sales executive in Chhatarpur. According to her family, they had spoken to her on Saturday evening after she left her office, but her phone became unreachable shortly afterwards. While searching for her, they were informed by Lodhi Colony Police that she had died after falling from the rooftop of a government housing complex.

Her family has alleged that Akriti was murdered and accused her husband and in-laws of being responsible for her death. They have rejected the possibility of suicide, claiming she was mentally strong and had no reason to take the extreme step.

Police are investigating the case, examining both the family's allegations of harassment and the digital evidence recovered during the probe.
