Delhi CM honours heroes of Malviya Nagar hotel fire, Saket building collapse

While 23 people died in the hotel fire in Delhi's Malviya Nagar last week, six were killed in the building collapse that took place in the city's Saidulajab area on May 30.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday felicitated rescuers and locals who played a crucial role in saving lives during the recent fire tragedy in Malviya Nagar and the building collapse in Saket's Saidulajab.

She also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the two incidents.

While 23 people died in the hotel fire in Malviya Nagar last week, six were killed in the building collapse that took place in Saidulajab on May 30.

A special event was held at the Delhi Secretariat to honour the citizens, police personnel, administrative officials and rescue workers who put their own lives at risk to save others.

At the programme, CM Gupta personally met them and presented them with commendation certificates and cheques of Rs 21,000 each, according to a statement issued by the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

One of the honourees was Riyazuddin Mansoori, who displayed presence of mind by laying out mattresses from his shop that helped save several lives during the Malviya Nagar blaze, the statement said.

According to the official release, besides presenting him with a cheque of Rs 21,000, the CM also ensured reimbursement of the cost of the mattresses he used, while lauding his humanitarian efforts.

Expressing condolences over the loss of lives, she announced that the Delhi government would provide an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the families who lost their loved ones.

Moreover, financial aid of Rs 2 lakh was announced for those who were injured in the two incidents.

The CM instructed officials to ensure that the disbursement of compensation and relief takes place in a swift and transparent manner, and within a fixed timeline, so that the affected families receive immediate support.

LIST OF HEROES HONOURED BY CM

Those recognised for their bravery during the Saidulajab building collapse included Chander Prakash, district project officer of the South District Disaster Management Authority; Delhi Police Inspector Ritesh Kumar Sharma; constables Manish Kumar Jangid, Vivek Shakya and Angad Meena; local residents Kapil Giri and Harjeet Kumar; and Dr Rafiq Khan.

Meanwhile, the citizens and officials honoured for their courageous roles in the rescue efforts in Malviya Nagar included Israr Khan, Kamal Kumar, Shashi Kumar, Pawan Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Sanjay Goyal, Shiv Kumar, Govind, Kunal, Mohammad Uwais, Mohammad Afzal, Mohammad Anees, Aamir Khan, Wasim Raja, Mohammad Sohaib Khan, Riyazuddin, Wasim Khan Gauri, Rajpal, Inspector Vinay Yadav, and head constables Dinesh, Kartar, Rajveer and Deshraj, according to the CMO statement.

"The Delhi Government salutes these true heroes who placed humanity above personal safety and stepped forward to help others in their hour of need," the Delhi CMO said in a post on X.
