Married 72 days ago, woman falls to death in Delhi; family alleges murder

A 28-year-old newlywed woman died after allegedly falling from a building in Delhi's Lodhi Colony area on Saturday evening, with her family alleging that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws.
The victim, Akriti Sutar, a resident of Pushp Vihar. According to police, Akriti was found injured after an alleged fall from NDMC Flats, Palika Kunj, on July 4 in the jurisdiction of Lodhi Colony police station. She was taken to AIIMS Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Akriti had married on April 24, 2026, less than three months before her death. She worked as a sales executive in Chhatarpur and had gone to work on the day of the incident.
According to her family, they spoke to Akriti on Saturday evening when she told them that she had left her office. However, her phone became unreachable shortly afterwards. As they began searching for her, they learnt through Lodhi Colony Police Station that she had died after falling from a rooftop.
Her family has alleged that Akriti was murdered and accused her husband and in-laws of killing her. They claimed that Akriti could not have died by suicide, describing her as a strong woman.
The family said Akriti had married the son of a Section Officer in the Labour Department, who lives in government flats in Pushp Vihar.
Delhi Police said proceedings under Section 196 of the BNSS have been initiated and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) has been informed for inquest proceedings.
Police said they are verifying all aspects of the incident and that the inquiry is in progress.
