Army officer's son, 20, dies as car falls into ditch in Delhi's Vasant Kunj
A 20-year-old son of an Indian Army officer, pursuing higher education in the US, died after the car he was driving skidded on a slippery road, fell into a drain and overturned in Delhi's Vasant Kunj.
A 20-year-old man, identified as Yashvendra, the son of an Indian Army officer, died after the car he was driving fell into a drain and overturned in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area on Friday morning.
According to police, a PCR call regarding the fatal accident was received at Vasant Kunj South police station on July 24. Preliminary information suggests that Yashvendra was driving the car with a female friend, a resident of Vasant Kunj, as the co-passenger. The two had stayed at a friend’s house the previous night and were travelling towards the woman’s residence in the morning.
The accident reportedly took place when the car was taking a sharp turn near the Nangal Dewat red light. The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle due to the slippery road surface, following which the car fell into a drain and overturned.
Yashvendra sustained serious injuries and later succumbed to them. The car belonged to the female co-passenger but was being driven by Yashvendra at the time of the accident.
Police said the deceased and the co-passenger were students pursuing higher education at the same institution in the US, where they had become friends. The woman’s father works in the cyber security sector at a private firm in Okhla, while her mother is a homemaker.
According to the co-passenger’s statement, the accident occurred due to the slippery road. Necessary legal proceedings are being carried out by the police.
