Cab driver killed after iron rod from e-rickshaw pierces chest on Gurugram highway
A cab driver died after his speeding cab collided with a loaded e-rickshaw on the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram, with iron rods jutting out of the three-wheeler piercing through the windshield and into his chest.
A cab driver was killed after his speeding cab rammed a loaded e-rickshaw, causing iron rods protruding from the three-wheeler to smash through the vehicle's windshield and pierce his chest on the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram on Friday. A woman passenger also suffered injuries due to the accident.
According to eyewitnesses, the cab was travelling from Gurugram towards Delhi when it crashed into a loading e-rickshaw that was moving in the overtaking lane.
The impact was so severe that the front portion of the cab was completely mangled. Iron rods being carried in the e-rickshaw tore through the windshield and entered the vehicle's cabin. One of the iron rods allegedly pierced the cab driver's chest, killing him on the spot.
The woman passenger travelling in the cab suffered serious injuries and was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle following the collision. Passersby alerted the police and rescue teams and helped pull the injured woman out of the vehicle before she was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Visuals from the accident site showed extensive damage to the cab, with iron rods protruding through the vehicle after the collision.
Police and rescue personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information about the accident. Due to the severity of the crash, officials had to use a cutter to remove the iron rod and recover the driver's body from the wreckage.
The body was later sent for post-mortem examination.
The accident triggered a traffic jam on the stretch for some time before police cleared the damaged vehicles and restored normal movement.
"The accident was extremely serious. The speeding cab hit a loading e-rickshaw from behind. The driver died on the spot after being pierced by an iron rod, while the injured woman was shifted to hospital for treatment," Satyapal Yadav, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Traffic (Headquarters and Highway), Gurugram, said.
Police have seized both vehicles and launched an investigation into the accident.
Officials are examining CCTV footage from the expressway to determine the exact sequence of events and whether negligence on the part of either driver contributed to the crash.
