The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has made registration of pet dogs mandatory in the city, citing concerns over rising dog bite incidents and public safety. Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya has issued directions with immediate effect, making it compulsory for dog owners to register their pets.

Keeping a pet dog without registration will now be treated as a violation of civic rules, and action can be taken against owners who fail to comply.

Under the new guidelines, dog owners can register their pets either through the MCG’s online portal or at Citizen Facilitation Centres (CFCs). Applicants will have to submit identity proof, a photograph of the dog, and a valid rabies vaccination certificate.

The registration will not be a one-time process, as owners will also be required to renew it periodically.

LEASH MANDATORY

The civic body has issued a set of guidelines for taking pet dogs to public places. Owners will not be allowed to leave their dogs unattended in public areas such as roads, parks, green belts, or markets.

Dogs must be kept on a leash whenever they are taken outside homes. Owners will also be responsible for cleaning up after their pets in public spaces.

The MCG has made it mandatory for pet owners to ensure timely vaccination, including rabies shots. In case a dog frightens, injures, or attacks any person, the owner will be held legally responsible.

STRICTER RULES FOR AGGRESSIVE DOGS

The civic body has imposed additional restrictions on certain breeds classified as aggressive or dangerous, including Pitbull Terrier, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, Cane Corso, Akita, and Mastiff breeds.

Owners of these breeds will have to ensure that their dogs wear both a leash and a muzzle while being taken to public places. The move is aimed at preventing any untoward incidents involving these breeds.

The MCG said the new measures are intended to balance pet ownership with public safety and ensure responsible handling of animals in the city.
