Hyderabad school sacks teacher for asking Class 2 student to read Kalma as homework

A major controversy erupted at a private school in Hyderabad, Telangana, after a Class 2 Hindu student was instructed to memorise and recite the Kalma. The issue came to light when the student's parents discovered the instruction written in a school diary and confronted the management. Following the parents' complaint and subsequent outrage, the school terminated the teacher responsible for the assignment. The school management termed the incident a first-time mistake and an error of judgment, claiming the matter was blown out of proportion. The incident sparked protests by political workers, who demanded strict action against the school authorities and alleged that such practices are attempts at religious conversion. Police detained several protesting workers at the site. The parents have also lodged a formal complaint at the local police station, demanding further accountability from the educational institution regarding the imposition of religious prayers on students of different faiths.
