At least 20 people were rescued after a fire broke out at an electric vehicle (EV) showroom in Indore's eastern part on Friday, officials said. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The blaze erupted at a ground-floor EV showroom and an attached repair centre in the Lasudia police station area, located in a three-storey building. At the time of the incident, the establishment was shut.

According to officials, the fire quickly spread within the premises and sent thick smoke into the staircase area of the building. This blocked the main exit route and left residents of the upper floors trapped.

Panic spread as people on the upper floors found themselves unable to descend. Residents of a nearby multi-storey building then stepped in after hearing calls for help. They first asked those trapped to move to the rooftop and then improvised a rescue route by placing ladders between the two buildings.

Some residents crossed over using ladders, while others were brought down with the help of ropes.

Fire brigade teams later brought the blaze under control. Several vehicles kept inside the showroom were gutted in the fire.

Officials confirmed that around 20 people were safely evacuated and no casualties were reported.
