53,256 energy drink bottles seized in Jaipur over misleading label claims

Authorities in Jaipur seized 53,256 bottles of Red Bull Energy Drink during a major enforcement drive under the Rajasthan government's 'Shuddh Aahar Milawat Par Waar' campaign on Tuesday.

The action was carried out under the directions of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Medical and Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar as part of the statewide campaign against food adulteration and misleading food practices.

According to Food Safety and Drug Control Commissioner Dr T Shubamangala, an inspection team from the commissionerate conducted the raid at the warehouse of M/s Adarsh Associate in Jaipur. The central team from the Jaipur headquarters carried out the inspection under the leadership of Additional Commissioner Bhagwat Singh.

During the inspection, officials collected a sample of the caffeinated beverage marketed as "Red Bull Energy" under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act).

Joint Commissioner Dr Vijay Prakash Sharma said the inspection found that the cans carried the claims "energy drink" and "vitalises body and mind." He said these claims fall under the category of misleading promotion as per the guidelines of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Officials have sent all collected samples to the State Food Laboratory for examination. The department said it will initiate necessary legal action under the relevant provisions of the Act over the alleged violations related to misleading claims on the product label.

The Food Safety Department also appealed to the public to remain cautious about food products carrying misleading claims and report any such complaints to the department immediately.
