9 Jaipur cops suspended over negligence in firecracker factory fire case

The development came after a preliminary investigation report highlighted the gross negligence of a section of security officials, including Station House Officer Om Prakash Matwa, head constable Ashok, constable Ramavatar, constable Dinesh, constable Asif, constable Harendra, and constable Ashok. In addition to this, Assistant Sub-Inspector Amar Singh and another head constable, Pappuram, have also been suspended.
The decision reflected a zero-tolerance policy of the local administration regarding negligence at work.

Five died during treatment at SMS Hospital, one was declared brought dead, and another died at a private hospital. The deceased have been identified as Sameer, Aabid, Nasir, Abdul Wahid and Bilal, while one victim remains unidentified.
Meanwhile, given the severity of the tragedy, a high-level special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to conduct a thorough probe. The committee will function under the direct leadership of the Additional Commissioner of Police for Crime, Ajay Singh.
The team has been tasked with investigating how the illegal factory managed to operate undetected, the specific role and accountability of the jurisdictional officers, violations of safety norms, and the exact points of administrative failure. Strict legal and disciplinary action will be initiated against those found guilty based on the final investigation report.
