The 16-year-old was allegedly strangled to death by Choubey and Mannan while she was sleeping. After killing her, the accused dumped her body on a roadside and fled the scene. Following this, Choubey lodged a formal complaint with the police, claiming his daughter was missing.

A man from Lucknow, along with his associate, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his minor daughter over her purported involvement in a romantic relationship. The main accused has been identified as Vijay Kumar Choubey. According to the police, he has confessed to the killing and also detailed the sequence of events of the brutal crime.
Choubey and his aide, Abdul Mannan, even disfigured the 16-year-old victim's face with acid after killing her to hide her identity, the police claimed. Additionally, a missing person complaint was also filed by the girl's father in an attempt to mislead the police. However, the ploy later proved crucial in revealing the truth.
The teenager was allegedly strangled to death by Choubey and Mannan while she was sleeping. After killing her, the accused dumped her body on a roadside and fled the scene. Following this, Choubey lodged a complaint on the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) portal, claiming his daughter had been kidnapped.
However, when a cop arrived at his house for investigation, the man was nowhere to be found. His phone was also switched off. This caused Choubey's father, a retired police inspector, to become suspicious of his son's actions.
The ex-cop then approached the police himself and demanded a thorough investigation into his granddaughter's disappearance. Following this, the police took the matter seriously and intensified the probe.
The investigation led the police to a young man who had been in a relationship with the victim. He provided an audio recording where the girl mentioned leaving with her father and requested not to be contacted. This recording became a crucial piece of evidence.
According to senior police official Dr Diksha Sharma, the girl was killed by Choubey and his friend on April 14 in Barabanki, where the duo had taken her under the pretext of seeking treatment through occult practices.
After the murder, Choubey and Mannan attempted to dispose of the body by throwing it into the canal. However, the duo panicked upon seeing people nearby, leading them to abandon the body on the roadside.
The police eventually caught Choubey in Gonda. He has allegedly confessed to investigators about hatching the conspiracy out of anger over his daughter's relationship.
