A retired Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel died in Lucknow from a gunshot wound in the head allegedly inflicted by an accidental discharge of a licenced rifle. According to reports, the man was cleaning the firearm when it went off.

The incident caused panic in the neighbourhood. The man was rushed to a hospital, but succumbed to his wounds before reaching there.

He was declared brought dead by the doctors at the hospital. While the incident prima facie appears to be an accident, the police are investigating it from all possible angles.

Last month, a man in Delhi died after he accidentally shot himself in the chest while making a social media reel being recorded by one of his cousins.

The chilling video showed the man, identified as Pawan, loading a magazine into a pistol before placing the firearm against his chest and accidentally pulling the trigger.

At the beginning of the footage, his cousin, Himanshu, could be heard instructing him on how to insert the magazine.

According to the police, the weapon involved in that incident was a licenced one belonging to Himanshu, who was shooting the reel on Pawan's instruction.

Before that, in February this year, a 37-year-old woman was killed after being accidentally shot by her 18-year-old son while he was allegedly handling an illegal firearm at their home in Delhi.

The teen was identified as the accused. According to the police, the country-made pistol involved in the mishap was procured by him illegally from an individual in the Ashram area of the national capital.
