Meerut caps DJ size, warns operators against violations ahead of Kanwar Yatra
Meerut police and district officials briefed around 250 DJ operators before Kanwar Yatra 2026. Officials asked operators to maintain religious harmony and avoid any inflammatory, objectionable or provocative announcements or content.
Police and the Meerut district administration held a meeting with around 250 DJ operators to prepare for the peaceful conduct of the upcoming Kanwar Yatra-2026, officials said on Monday. The operators were told to follow rules on the size of DJ set-ups, noise levels and traffic movement during the procession.
Officials also asked them to maintain religious harmony and avoid any inflammatory, objectionable or provocative announcements or content. They said strict action would be taken against anyone violating the rules during the yatra.
The meeting was held at the Police Lines and was chaired by Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey. Superintendent of Police (City) Vinayak Gopal Bhosale, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Abhijit Kumar, the Circle Officer (Kotwali) and the Additional District Magistrate (City) were also present, according to a statement.
During the meeting, officials said DJ set-ups during the yatra must not exceed 12 feet in height and 10 feet in width. They also informed operators that music must not be played above the prescribed decibel limits in line with noise pollution control rules, and that obscene songs and provocative slogans were prohibited.
The administration said DJ vehicles and other temporary structures must not obstruct public roads, and warned of strict action against those blocking routes or violating traffic rules. Officials also asked DJ operators not to pay attention to rumours and to report any misleading information to the police immediately.
They were told to remain in constant touch with designated contact officers and to promptly report any issue to the nearest police station or control room.
During the session, the DJ operators also placed their concerns and suggestions before the administration. Officials urged everyone to cooperate with the administration and follow the law so that the Kanwar Yatra is held in a peaceful, safe and orderly manner.
