An FIR has been registered by the police on the basis of a complaint lodged by the 63-year-old woman. According to the complaint, she was seeking a refund for five packets of milk she had ordered from a well-known quick-commerce grocery delivery platform.

A 63-year-old retired woman in Gujarat’s Rajkot was allegedly duped of Rs 1.91 lakh by a cyber fraudster posing as a customer care executive of a renowned quick-commerce grocery delivery platform while she was trying to obtain a refund of Rs 175 for spoilt milk delivered to her address.
An FIR has been registered by the police on the basis of a complaint lodged by the senior citizen. According to the complaint, the woman had ordered five packets of milk from Zepto.
However, after receiving the order, she purportedly found that the milk was spoilt. The elderly woman then took to Google to search for Zepto's customer care number in order to request a refund.
She subsequently contacted one of the phone numbers that appeared in the search results. The person on the other end of the call identified himself as Ismail Ansari and falsely claimed to be a Zepto customer care executive.
He gained the woman’s trust and allegedly told her that the refund could be processed through UPI. As part of the deception, he sent her an APK file and asked her to download it. The accused then allegedly tricked the senior citizen into transferring a total of Rs 1.91 lakh to various bank accounts and UPI IDs, according to the complaint.
Upon realising that she had been scammed, the woman approached the national cyber helpline. A case has been registered at the Rajkot City Cyber Crime Police Station against those associated with the mobile numbers and bank accounts involved in the fraud.
Charges pertaining to cheating and other relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act have been invoked against the accused.
Police have launched an investigation and are examining the UPI IDs, bank accounts and mobile numbers allegedly used in the fraud to trace those involved.
