Ketan wore wig patch, Siya knew of it: Father amid swirling murder theories

Ketan Agarwal's use of a wig has emerged as a fresh angle in the Pune murder case, though police say it alone cannot explain the motive behind Siya's decision to kill him.

Ketan Agarwal was pushed off the Lohagad Fort by fiancee Siya Goyal and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary on June 18, say police.

The father of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal, who was pushed to death by his fiancee, has dismissed claims that accused Siya Goyal was unhappy because Ketan wore a hair patch, saying she and her family were aware of it well before the engagement.

Ketan's father, Vishal Agarwal, acknowledged that his son wore "a small patch of wig" but rejected suggestions that it had been concealed from the bride's family.

"It is true that Ketan wore a small patch of wig. Siya and her family had been informed about it before the engagement. If she had any issues, she should have said no. What was the need to kill my son?" he told reporters, as multiple theories swirl around the motive behind the murder.

The details of Ketan's hair patch have emerged as a fresh angle in the investigation into the murder motive. However, police maintain that the wig alone cannot explain the motive behind the crime.

The father also rejected the Goyal family's allegation that it was Ketan who insisted on the fort trek. "As per my information, it was Siya who wanted to go on the trek," he said.

Ketan, 26, was pushed to death on June 18 after being lured by Siya to a trek at Pune's historic Lohagad Fort. Police allege that Siya Goyal and her boyfriend, Chetan Chaudhary, pushed Ketan into a 300-foot gorge and attempted to pass it off as an accidental fall while he was posing for photographs. The preliminary investigation found the murder was premeditated, with multiple earlier attempts allegedly made to eliminate him before the fatal push.

Meanwhile, Siya's parents, speaking to India Today TV on Thursday, maintained that their daughter had been happy with the wedding plans and had repeatedly expressed her willingness to marry Ketan.

"Before we fixed Siya's marriage, we asked her repeatedly, at least ten times. We told her, 'Siya, we are planning your marriage. Do you like Ketan? Do you want to go ahead with this marriage?' Every time she told us, 'Yes, I like Ketan'," her mother said.

According to her, there was never any indication that Siya was unwilling to marry Ketan or that she was involved in another relationship.

As per the latest details emerging from the interrogation of Siya and Chetan, the two told police that it was Chetan who instigated Siya to eliminate Ketan during their visit to Lohagad Fort. Police had earlier claimed that after the trio reached a cliff edge, Siya gave a pre-arranged signal to Chetan, who then pushed an unsuspecting Ketan into the gorge.

Siya's family has, however, sought to counter the police narrative, claiming that it was Ketan's idea to visit the fort and that Siya was reluctant to go because a family function was scheduled for the following day.

"Siya told me, 'Mummy, Ketan is asking me to come for trekking, but I don't want to go. Please ask him not to insist.' But Ketan's mother told her, 'If Ketan is asking you to come, then go. He may have planned a birthday surprise for you'," Siya's mother, Pooja Goyal, told India Today TV.

Siya's father, Praveen Goyal, also rejected suggestions that there had been warning signs before the engagement. Referring to reports that Ketan had expressed concerns to his family about Siya's phone frequently being busy, he said those concerns were never communicated to them.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday met Ketan's father in Pune and accepted the family's demands for a fast-track trial and the appointment of noted lawyer Ujjwal Nikam as the special public prosecutor. Nikam has handled several high-profile terror and murder cases, including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
