Pune woman arrested for wearing police uniform to get clinic access

A 25-year-old woman who allegedly impersonated a police officer by wearing a khaki uniform and police insignia to gain preferential treatment at a clinic has been arrested by Pune Police.

The accused has been identified as Samina Asif Inamdar alias Samina Ayub Pathan. She was arrested by a team from the Lashkar Police Station in Pune's Camp area.

According to police, Samina had aspired to join the police force, but her dream remained unfulfilled. She is currently employed by a private company.

The incident came to light on June 6 when Sub-Inspector Mahesh Shinde and his team were on patrol in the Camp area. During the patrol, they spotted a woman outside a reputed private clinic wearing a police uniform with stars indicating the rank of a Police Sub-Inspector.

Her behaviour appeared suspicious, prompting SI Shinde to verify her identity. With the assistance of women police personnel, officers questioned her about her posting and asked her to produce an official identity card. Unable to provide satisfactory answers, she allegedly gave evasive responses.

Police subsequently detained her for further questioning, during which it emerged that she was not associated with the police department and had been posing as an officer. Investigators found that she had reportedly been trying to secure an appointment with a doctor at the clinic.

As she was unable to obtain an appointment due to the heavy rush, she allegedly wore a police uniform and attempted to influence the clinic staff by posing as a police officer.

A case has been registered against the accused and she has been arrested. Police are also investigating whether she had used the same method on previous occasions or was involved in any other cases of impersonation or fraud.
