A physical scuffle broke out between BJP and opposition UDF councillors at the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation. The clash occurred over the signing of the attendance register during a council meeting. The opposition alleges that the ruling BJP is purposely delaying council meetings to prevent the disqualification of a BJP councillor who is currently jailed under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act. According to municipal rules, a councillor is automatically disqualified if absent for three consecutive meetings. Since the BJP holds an absolute majority with exactly fifty-one seats, the disqualification of one councillor could result in the loss of their majority in the corporation, potentially leading to a re-election.
