The Delhi government is set to build a new sports hostel in Pitampura with an international-standard, all-weather swimming complex and gymnastics hall at a cost of over 99.51 crore.

According to an Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) document, the proposal has been processed by the Directorate of Education and includes a full-scale sports facility designed to support both residential athletes and national-level training.

The hostel will include separate accommodation blocks for boys and girls, a multi-level structure, and a long-span steel-covered swimming pool designed for year-round use.

OLYMPIC-STYLE POOL AND TRAINING HUB

The upgraded swimming complex will support multiple aquatic events, including 50-metre and 25-metre competitions, water polo and training activities. A dedicated gymnastics hall is also part of the plan.

Earlier designs proposed a fair-weather pool, but officials later revised the plan to an all-weather facility after it was deemed unsuitable for international-level competitions.

The revised structure also includes modern amenities such as water supply systems, sanitation, CCTV surveillance, fire safety systems, solar power generation and a sewage treatment plant.

The cost revision also reflects changes in design, scope and increased GST rates, according to the document.

264-CRORE SCHOOL UPGRADE PLAN

In a parallel move, the government has cleared 264.91 crore for the repair, renovation and infrastructure upgradation of 75 CM SHRI schools across Delhi.

These schools were notified as a “specified category” under the Directorate of Education following a Cabinet decision in May 2025 and a formal notification in September 2025.

The project aims to improve both academic and physical infrastructure to enhance student safety and learning outcomes.

WHAT WILL CHANGE IN SCHOOLS

The upgrade plan includes repairs to buildings, removal of seepage and dampness, repainting, boundary wall strengthening, improved drainage and sewerage systems, and accessibility features.

Schools will also see new entrance gates with updated names and logos, upgraded laboratories, libraries, sports facilities, fire safety systems and multipurpose halls.

The 75 schools have been divided into five clusters across Delhi for execution. One cluster will be handled by the Public Works Department, while the remaining four will be implemented through public sector undertakings via a limited tender process.
