Women lead IIM Kozhikode's new 4-year programme batch, account for 59% of 120 students
IIM Kozhikode inducted the second batch of its four-year BMS programme in Kochi. Women made up 59 per cent of the 120-student cohort, underlining the institute's focus on diversity.
The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) has inducted the second batch of its four-year Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) (Honours with Research) programme, with women making up 59 per cent of the new cohort. A total of 120 students have enrolled in the undergraduate programme, which is offered from the institute's Urban Learning Centre in Kochi.
The inaugural ceremony for the new batch was held at Lulu Twin Towers, Kalamassery, Kochi, with former Tata Sons Brand Custodian and author Harish Bhat attending as the chief guest. The event was presided over by IIM Kozhikode Director Prof. Debashis Chatterjee.
STUDENTS FROM 18 STATES JOIN SECOND BMS BATCH
According to the institute, the new batch comprises 71 women and 49 men.
Students have joined the programme from 18 states and Union Territories. Maharashtra has the highest representation with 19 students, followed by Telangana (18), Kerala (12), Tamil Nadu (11) and Madhya Pradesh (11).
The academic backgrounds of the incoming students are also varied. Around 56 per cent come from commerce, 39 per cent from science, while the remaining students are from arts and other streams.
Addressing the students, Harish Bhat encouraged them to embrace lifelong learning and resilience, saying India's growth story would reward those who remain curious, adaptable and committed to continuous learning. He urged students to pursue excellence over immediate success and view failures as opportunities to learn.
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME ALIGNED WITH NEP
Welcoming the second cohort, Prof. Chatterjee said the institute's first BMS batch had set the foundation for the programme, while the new intake would help shape its culture of excellence and responsible leadership. He said the continued high representation of women reflects IIM Kozhikode's commitment to diversity across its academic programmes.
Launched as the first full-time undergraduate programme by any of India's top three IIMs, the BMS (Honours with Research) programme is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP). The four-year course combines management education with interdisciplinary learning and offers stackable minors in areas such as economics and public policy, artificial intelligence and machine learning, psychology and behavioural sciences, finance and big data, and liberal studies.
The programme also includes international exchange opportunities, research projects, industry internships and career support through IIM Kozhikode's Corporate Access Readiness and Engagement (CARE) initiative.
