Modi-Fico talks pave way for stronger India-Slovakia education, research, AI ties

India-Slovakia strengthen higher education

India and Slovakia are strengthening cooperation in higher education, research, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and emerging technologies. During his visit to the Slovak Republic on June 15, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to promote greater mobility of students, academics, and researchers, with a special focus on STEM and humanities disciplines.

In a social media post on its official X handle, the Ministry of Education stated, "India and Slovakia are strengthening their partnership in higher education and research, AI and emerging technologies."

The ministry added that the discussions, along with the signing of key agreements on digital technologies, mark a new chapter in innovation and cooperation between the two countries.

STRENGTHENING DIGITAL COOPERATION

The two leaders appreciated the successful outcomes of the AI Impact Summit 2026 held in Delhi, which was attended by the Slovak President Peter Pellegrini. Both sides also welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Digital Technologies, which will provide a structured framework for expanding cooperation in the digital sector.

According to reports, India and Slovakia have agreed to expand cooperation across key emerging sectors, including Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, start-ups, innovation ecosystems, research institutions, and technology companies, with a focus on driving innovation and creating mutually beneficial opportunities.

The two countries also decided to explore partnerships in advanced technologies such as 5G applications, 6G standardisation, Internet of Things (IoT), and machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions.

Both sides further welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between their respective Ministries of Education in the field of higher education and research. The agreement aims to strengthen academic exchanges, support joint research initiatives, and build long-term institutional partnerships between India and Slovakia.
