NEET PG 2026 registration begins: No more first-come-first-served city rule
NBEMS has opened NEET-PG 2026 registrations and revised the test city allotment process. Candidates will not get any early advantage, as cities will no longer be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has opened the application process for NEET PG 2026, with registrations beginning on July 1. The postgraduate medical entrance examination will be conducted on August 30, 2026, in computer-based mode at examination centres across the country.
Candidates have been advised to read the information bulletin carefully and avoid waiting until the last date to complete the registration process.
NEET PG 2026 EXAM DATE, ADMIT CARD RELEASE DATES
According to the official notification, candidates can submit their online application forms until 11:55 pm on July 21. The information bulletin, containing details on eligibility, exam pattern, fee structure and other instructions, will be available on the NBEMS website from 4 pm on July 1.
The board has also announced that candidates will be informed about their allotted test city on August 11, while the NEET-PG 2026 result will be declared by September 30. NEET PG exam date is August 30.
NEET PG 2026: WHAT'S NEW THIS YEAR
In a separate advisory issued on Wednesday, NBEMS introduced a key change in the test city allocation process. Unlike previous years, test cities will not be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning candidates will not gain any advantage by submitting their applications early.
Instead, applicants will have to choose three preferred test states while filling out the application form. The first preferred state must be the same as the correspondence state mentioned in the application, while the remaining two preferences should be neighbouring states.
Candidates must also provide a valid correspondence address along with acceptable proof. NBEMS clarified that the correspondence address and test state preferences cannot be edited after the application is submitted, including during the correction window.
The board further advised candidates to upload only recent photographs (not older than three months) and other images strictly as per the prescribed guidelines. Applications containing unclear, manipulated or non-compliant images may be rejected or may lead to non-issuance of the admit card.
NBEMS said that while it will make every effort to allot candidates a test city based on their preferences, it reserves the right to assign a test city or centre anywhere in India due to administrative, security, logistical or technical reasons.
