Telegram groups charging up to Rs 10 lakh for NEET paper are scams, says NTA
The NTA has warned NEET candidates about Telegram channels falsely selling the June 21 re-exam paper. The alert comes amid continued paper leak rumours and a push to stop online fraud.
With the NEET re-examination scheduled for June 21, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has stepped up its efforts to counter misinformation and online fraud targeting candidates and their families.
In a recent social media post, the NTA warned students against Telegram channels claiming to sell the NEET re-exam question paper for amounts ranging from Rs 14,000 to Rs 25,000, with some groups allegedly demanding as much as Rs 10 lakh.
"The money is gone the moment you transfer it. There is no leaked paper for the re-exam," the agency said, urging candidates and parents not to fall for such claims.
The warning comes as authorities remain on high alert ahead of the re-exam, which is being conducted following concerns raised over the integrity of the earlier examination process.
According to the NTA, scammers are operating through Telegram channels and groups that promise access to the NEET re-exam paper in exchange for money. The agency said these fraudsters often ask students to share personal details such as admit cards and WhatsApp numbers, which are then used to target other candidates.
The NTA also cautioned against videos circulating online that claim to provide proof of question paper leaks.
Explaining how such content is created, the agency said Telegram channel administrators can edit old messages while retaining the original date stamp, making it appear as though information was shared before the examination.
"The trick is that a message edited later can be made to look like it was originally posted days earlier," the NTA said.
The agency urged candidates to rely only on official communication channels for examination-related information and to report suspicious activities.
The June 21 re-exam is being closely watched by students, parents and education authorities across the country. With concerns over paper leak rumours continuing to circulate online, the NTA said candidates should remain cautious and avoid engaging with individuals or groups claiming to have access to confidential examination material.
