NEET UG 2026 re-test result by July 20, NTA assures no delay in MBBS academic year
The NTA has said the NEET UG 2026 re-examination result will be declared by July 20. It has also said the MBBS academic session will remain on schedule despite the re-examination process.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has confirmed that the re-NEET UG 2026 results will be declared by July 20, NTA sources told India Today, assuring that the medical academic calendar will not be affected.
The exam was conducted on June 21 after the cancellation of the May 3 NEET-UG due to alleged paper leak concerns involving over 20 lakh candidates.
The official said the agency is working on a “war footing” to complete the evaluation and resolve around 10,000 challenges submitted by candidates on the provisional answer key.
Each challenge is being scanned, verified and matched with supporting evidence before finalisation, the official added.
ANSWER KEY SCRUTINY
The NTA had released the provisional answer key on June 25, giving candidates time till June 28 to raise objections with a fee of Rs 200 per question, refundable if correct.
Officials said nearly 10,000 challenges were received, and each will be reviewed as per standard verification protocol.
COUNSELLING CLOCK TICKS
Despite the re-exam, the NTA has assured that the MBBS academic session will begin on time, with counselling schedules to be released after results. The Medical Counselling Committee will conduct admissions for All India Quota seats, while states will manage their own counselling processes.
Candidates will register online, fill choices, and seats will be allotted based on rank, category, reservation norms and availability, followed by reporting to colleges.
Multiple rounds, including mop-up and stray vacancy rounds, are conducted to ensure all seats are filled before the academic year begins.
PREPARATION BEGINS FOR ADMISSION
Some states, including Tamil Nadu, have already started preparatory admissions pending the final NEET result.
Officials said counselling this year is expected to follow a similar timeline to previous cycles, with Round 1 beginning shortly after results are declared. In a normal NEET year, the first-year MBBS session begins between August and September depending on completion of counselling rounds.
States are expected to release detailed counselling schedules after the NEET result, allowing candidates to lock preferences and complete admissions without delay.
Ensuring a smooth transition from exam to admission remains the agency’s priority, the official stated further.
