Patna schools shut up to Class 8 till June 27 due to heatwave conditions

The Patna district administration has issued an order directing the closure of all schools up to Class 8 till June 27 in view of the prevailing heatwave conditions as the maximum temperature in Patna hovering around 38 degrees Celsius over the past few days. The prolonged heat has affected daily life and raised concerns about the health and well-being of children attending school during afternoon hours.

Patna District Magistrate Kundan Kumar issued the order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. As per the directive, all academic activities for students from pre-school to Class 8 will remain suspended in government as well as private schools across the district.

The order will remain in effect from June 22 to June 27, 2026.

In its notification, the district administration said that the prevailing heatwave-like conditions could pose a risk to children's health and well-being. The closure has been announced as a precautionary measure to minimise exposure to extreme heat.

School authorities have been directed to ensure compliance with the order. The District Magistrate has also instructed the District Education Officer and other concerned officials to monitor implementation and ensure that schools follow the guidelines.

The administration has appealed to parents to remain cautious and take necessary steps to protect children from heat-related illnesses. Parents have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours and follow heat-safety measures recommended by the Health Department.

The closure applies only to academic activities up to Class 8. Any further decision regarding the reopening of schools will depend on weather conditions and a review of the situation by the district administration.
