CBSE rejects claims of irregularities in Class 12 answer book scanning under OSM
CBSE has denied claims that Class 12 answer books were improperly scanned under OSM. The clarification follows concerns over the board's first full-scale digital evaluation process.

Days after concerns surfaced from some teachers, evaluators and sections of students over the implementation of the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for CBSE Class 12 board examinations, CBSE has denied reports alleging irregularities in the scanning of answer books.
The Board on Wednesday termed the claims “factually incorrect” and said the entire evaluation process under OSM was carried out following established protocols.
In a statement shared on X, CBSE said reports suggesting answer sheets were not scanned properly due to inadequate preparation or shortage of time do not reflect the facts.
“A claim is circulating in the media that the scanning of answer books under OSM was not carried out properly due to inadequate preparation and paucity of time. This claim is factually incorrect,” CBSE said.
The clarification comes after reports and discussions emerged around the newly introduced digital evaluation process, with concerns being raised over whether the transition to full-scale online assessment had affected accuracy or consistency in marking.
CBSE SAYS OSM PROCESS FOLLOWED STRICT CHECKS
Defending the evaluation system, the Board stated that each stage of the OSM process, including scanning of answer sheets, quality checks, allocation to evaluators, marking and final assessment, was conducted under continuous monitoring.
According to CBSE, safeguards were built into the process to maintain transparency and fairness during evaluation.
“Every stage of the OSM system, including scanning, quality checks, marking and evaluation, was undertaken according to established procedures and under constant supervision,” the Board said.
CBSE further added that it remains committed to ensuring fairness, transparency and integrity in examinations.
WHAT IS OSM AND WHY HAS IT BEEN DISCUSSED?
The On-Screen Marking (OSM) system is a digital evaluation method in which physical answer sheets are scanned and assessed online by examiners instead of being manually checked in paper form.
This year marked the first time CBSE implemented full-scale evaluation of Class 12 answer books through OSM, making it one of the biggest changes in the board’s assessment process in recent years.
The shift was introduced with the aim of improving standardisation, reducing manual errors and speeding up evaluation.
However, the transition also triggered discussions among educators regarding preparedness, workload and operational challenges.
CBSE URGES STUDENTS TO TRUST OFFICIAL UPDATES
Following speculation around the evaluation process, CBSE appealed to students and parents not to rely on unverified reports.
The Board advised stakeholders to depend only on official communication channels for information related to examinations, evaluation and results.
CBSE had announced the Class 12 board examination results on May 13. According to the results, more than 85 per cent of students cleared the examination this year.
The overall pass percentage, however, recorded a decline of over three percentage points compared to the previous year.
The 2026 results were also significant because they were the first to be processed after the Board adopted full-scale OSM evaluation for Class 12 answer sheets.
