NEET UG 2026 is being conducted under an unprecedented security blanket today, June 21, as over 22 lakh candidates appear for the re-examination at 5,440 centres across 551 cities in India and 14 international locations. Scheduled from 2 pm to 5:15 pm, the test is being closely monitored through AI-enabled surveillance, biometric verification, CCTV coverage, signal jammers, frisking teams, dog squads and extensive police deployment to ensure a fair and transparent process.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has intensified monitoring following the controversy surrounding the cancellation of the earlier examination, with mock drills, centre inspections and strict entry protocols implemented nationwide. Candidates have been advised to carry only the June 21 admit card, follow dress code guidelines and reach centres well before the 1:30 pm gate-closing deadline.
Ahead of the re-exam, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged students to remain calm and trust the examination system, assuring them that all necessary safeguards have been put in place.
At the same time, concerns over student well-being have remained in focus after several reported deaths of NEET aspirants in the run-up to the re-test, highlighting the immense pressure faced by candidates.
Adding to the pre-exam developments, a controversy emerged over the allocation of an examination centre in Abu Dhabi to a Nagpur-based candidate who had applied from India. The issue sparked debate over centre allocation procedures and gained traction on social media.
The NTA rejected claims of a technical glitch, stating that application records indicated the examination city preference had been viewed and modified during the application process. The agency later facilitated a change of centre and maintained that the allotment was not caused by any system error.
