Singer and music composer Amaal Mallik has reacted strongly to the death of Pune businessman and realtor Ketan Agarwal, saying an earlier refusal could have saved his life. In a post on X on Sunday, the 36-year-old questioned why the marriage was not called off before the engagement if there were objections to it.

Mallik's remarks came as police continued their investigation into Agarwal's death at Lohagad Fort, which is now being treated as a suspected murder. Investigators have alleged that Agarwal's fiance Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary planned the killing, rehearsed it days earlier and searched online for ways to carry it out.

In his post, Mallik wrote, "The amount of effort she put into killing him is insane," and added, "Only a fraction of it was needed to say no - 'My heart belongs elsewhere and I'm in love with another man.'" He said that if Agarwal had not accepted a refusal, the matter could have been taken to the family.

He also wrote, "No one can force an educated and earning woman anywhere in the world from going against her will." Questioning the alleged actions, he added, "The laws in India are better for women than men, but why misuse and manipulate the system." Referring to the accused, he wrote, "The audacity of these two to think that they can live a happy life after taking away someone's kid! A life is lost. Families are shattered. Monsters."

Mallik also shared another image with the heading "DEAR WOMEN!" In it, he said women had suffered "for generations" because of men. He wrote, "I'm SORRY, and I SUPPORT the RAGE you all COLLECTIVELY have towards men." At the same time, he said anger should be directed at men who oppress women and added, "LABELLING anything & everything as TOXIC and not taking ACCOUNTABILITY is precisely why we miss out on the REAL SIGNS." He also wrote, "This MAN didn't deserve this, look at his smile and his EYES" and "KETAN AGGARWAL seemed so PURE & ENDEARING."

Police have alleged that Siya and Chetan were in a relationship, but she did not call off her engagement to Agarwal. During questioning, Chetan allegedly told investigators that Siya did not want to elope because she feared it would bring shame to her family. Investigators have also alleged that Siya had repeatedly persuaded Agarwal to visit Lohagad Fort in the weeks before his death, and that conversations between the two later led to a plan to eliminate him.

Reactions from other public figures

Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut said families should not be judged for the actions of their children and questioned the role of social media, artificial intelligence and peer influence in shaping young minds. On Instagram Stories, she wrote that parents could not be blamed because people were living many parallel lives and carefully building a desirable image of themselves.

Actor Hina Khan had also earlier expressed shock over the developments on social media.
