Taylor-Travis wedding buzz: Police confirm security, Mamdani jokes 'stay inside'
New York officials are preparing security cover around Madison Square Garden amid reports of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding celebrations. Amid the speculation, Mayor Zohran Mamdani's joking remark has left everyone curious.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's reported wedding celebrations are expected to bring parts of Midtown Manhattan to a standstill. As preparations for the private event gathered pace, the New York Police Department commissioner, while outlining security arrangements for the Fourth of July weekend, acknowledged that a security detail would be in place for an event at Madison Square Garden. Amid the growing buzz, Mayor Zohran Mamdani also appeared to make a playful quip about the reported wedding.
On June 30, Mamdani addressed New Yorkers in a press conference and emphasised the importance of staying indoors, air-conditioned amid a heat wave as temperatures climb to 100 degrees Fahrenheit starting on Thursday (July 2) and lasting throughout the Fourth of July weekend, which is their Independence Day.
When asked about how it might affect the city in relation to Swift and Kelce’s reported big day, Mamdani said, “My recommendation to all New Yorkers is to stay inside and stay cool. If you happen to be getting married at Madison Square Garden, you will be staying inside, and you will be staying cool,” he continued with a smile. “I think it’s a good example to set for the city at large.”
On the other hand, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch outlined the security measures being put in place during a July 4 briefing, detailing how authorities are preparing for the high-profile celebrations.
According to an internal police planning memo, hundreds of law enforcement officers will be deployed around Madison Square Garden as the couple hosts a private, two-day wedding celebration.
While briefing about the security measures, the commissioners said, “Would be remiss not to mention an event that we are tracking at Madison Square Garden on Friday night. The NYPD will, of course, have a detail in place, but I am not going to go into more specifics on that at this time.”
What we know about Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce wedding
With speculation around the wedding reaching a fever pitch, preparations at Madison Square Garden have only added to the excitement. Several videos circulating on social media show trucks arriving at the venue and large covered crates being moved inside, leaving fans convinced that the much-awaited wedding celebrations are just around the corner.
According to reports by The Guardian, around 100 guests are expected to attend an intimate pre-wedding gathering, which will be followed by a much larger celebration with hundreds of additional invites. Actor Blake Lively, who had a fallout with Swift a few years ago, is reportedly not on the guest list.
Several reports have suggested that artistes including Stevie Nicks, Tim McGraw and Ed Sheeran could perform during the wedding celebrations. While none of them have confirmed their involvement, the reported line-up has fuelled speculation, given their long-standing friendships and musical collaborations with Taylor Swift.
Meanwhile, multiple reports have suggested that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce could get married on July 3, followed by a larger celebration on July 4, a date that coincides with the United States' Independence Day. However, neither the couple nor their representatives have confirmed the reports.
