Taylor Swift inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame, thanks family in tearful speech
Taylor Swift thanked her family and Steven Spielberg as she accepted her Songwriters Hall of Fame honour in New York. The speech framed her record-setting induction at 36 as a reflection on sacrifice, storytelling and endurance.

Singer-songwriter Taylor Swift delivered a 21-minute acceptance speech at the Songwriters Hall of Fame 2026 induction ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City on Thursday night, thanking her family as she became the youngest female inductee at 36. An emotional Swift, dedicated the honour to her family while expressing gratitude for their lifelong support.
Before Swift spoke just after midnight, Sombr paid tribute to her with performances of Cardigan and Dear John. In her speech, Swift looked back on her career, thanked her family for moving from Pennsylvania to Nashville to support her songwriting ambitions, and spoke about why Steven Spielberg was the person she wanted to introduce her.
The 36-year-old said, “It was easy to choose songwriting over everything else in my life."
"But it couldn’t have been easy for my parents and my brother to just pick up and move our entire family from Pennsylvania to relocate to Nashville so that I could hone my craft in the songwriting capital of the world," she went on.
"But after making obvious that this was not even remotely a temporary phase their teen daughter was going through, they uprooted their entire lives to move me to Music City. And even though words are supposed to kind of be my thing, I will never be able to express my gratitude to you guys for doing that for me. You’re the reason I’m here tonight,"Swift added.
The singer is also the second-youngest inductee overall, with only Stevie Wonder having received the honour earlier, at 32 in 1983.
Swift also thanked filmmaker Steven Spielberg for introducing her and explained why she chose him. "A few months ago when the Songwriters Hall of Fame asked me about my heroes and the creatives who shaped my storytelling and who I might want to present this award to me, I said Steven’s name," the singer said.
"And about an hour later to my absolute delight, I ended up on the phone with him and his legendarily effervescent wife, Kate Capshaw, who is here tonight. And he was telling me yes, absolutely he would be thrilled to be here. I was completely blown away because the man has a massive film called ‘Disclosure Day’ that’s coming out at midnight tonight and he’s still going to agree and show up to do this for me a few hours before it comes out. Wouldn’t that be impossibly hard to balance? Wouldn’t that be too difficult scheduling wise? I’m trying to give him an out," she added
During the event, Swift was seated with her fiance Travis Kelce, along with their mothers Andrea Swift and Donna Kelce. Spielberg was also at their table. Swift was part of the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s 2026 class alongside Alanis Morissette, Kenny Loggins, Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of Kiss, Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, and Walter Afanasieff.
A day later, she arrived in New York to attend the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks faced the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4. Sitting courtside, Swift wore an orange and blue T-shirt with the words “Stevie Knicks” on it. She was joined by Alana and Este Haim, who wore similar shirts reading “Knickelback” and “Knickole Kidman”.
Meanwhile, reports continue to swirl about her relationship with fiance Travis Kelce, with several outlets suggesting the couple are preparing for a wedding in New York City this July.
The couple has not yet made any official announcement.
