Anil Kapoor to host Indian adaptation of global game show The 1% Club
Actor Anil Kapoor is set to return to television as the host of Star Plus' Indian adaptation of the global hit game show The 1% Club. The actor is currently shooting for the first promo, with an official announcement expected soon.

India Today has exclusively learnt that actor Anil Kapoor is all set to return to the small screen as the host of Star Plus' upcoming reality show. The game show is the Indian adaptation of the globally successful British format The 1% Club.
Produced by Endemol Shine India, the show is expected to be one of the broadcaster's biggest reality launches in recent years. Sources close to the development reveal that Kapoor is currently shooting for the first promotional campaign, which is expected to be unveiled soon.
"The team wanted a host who could bring both class and mass appeal to the format. Since The 1% Club is a quiz-based game show that also requires a fun and engaging personality, they explored multiple options before deciding on Anil Kapoor," a source shared.
Kapoor is no stranger to hosting duties, as he played the host of Bigg Boss OTT 3. He has also previously fronted the Indian adaptation of 24 on TV.
With reality television continuing to be a key focus area for broadcasters, Star Plus appears to be placing a big bet on the format. The channel has previously aired shows such as Kaun Banega Crorepati, Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?, MasterChef India, Dance+, Nach Baliye, India's Next Superstars, Sacch Ka Saamna, Sabse Smart Kaun? and Smart Jodi, among others.
An official announcement regarding the show is expected in the coming weeks.
All about The 1% Club format
For those unfamiliar with the format, The 1% Club is quite different from traditional quiz shows. It doesn't test contestants on current affairs, history or general knowledge. Instead, it challenges them with logic, observation, common sense and problem-solving questions.
The show has been a hit internationally thanks to its unique premise, allowing viewers to play along from home regardless of their academic knowledge or expertise.
The format first launched in the UK in 2022 and quickly became one of the country's biggest entertainment successes. Since then, it has been adapted across multiple territories, including Australia, France, Germany, Spain, Israel, the Netherlands, Mexico, Greece, Hungary, Ukraine, Turkey and the United States, among others.
Earlier this year, BBC Studios announced that the format had expanded to 15 territories worldwide, making it one of the fastest-growing unscripted formats in recent years.
