Following the debut of the prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, another Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon, is set to return with its third season. Inspired by George RR Martin's Fire & Blood, the series has unveiled a new trailer and confirmed its release date.
House of the Dragon Season 3 will premiere internationally on HBO on June 21, and will be released in India on JioHotstar a day later. The new season features actors Emma D'Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Fabien Frankel, Rhys Ifans and Steve Toussaint, as the struggle for the Iron Throne among the Targaryens intensifies.
Sharing the trailer on Instagram, the official Game of Thrones handle wrote, "There will be no doubt who the gods have chosen to rule (sic)." The season centres on the conflict between Rhaenyra, played by D'Arcy, and King Aegon II Targaryen, played by Tom Glynn-Carney, who is referred to as the false king.
The teaser trailer for the upcoming chapter showcases a formidable vow from Daemon Targaryen, as he tells Rhaenyra, “You now have power no man has ever wielded.” The striking moment also hints at the fierce next stage of the civil war, which follows the bloody family battle for the Iron Throne.
House of the Dragon Season 3 introduces Ormund Hightower, played by James Norton. He is the Lord of Oldtown and cousin to Alicent Hightower, played by Cooke, and is shown preparing to support her with Daeron Targaryen's new dragon, Tessarion. It also points to the future of the Targaryen lineage with the line, "They say every time a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin and the world holds its breath."
The trailer hints at the presence of several dragons in the story, including Daemon's dragon Caraxes. The new season carries the tagline, 'From Fire Comes Darkness'.
The series has already been renewed for a fourth season, which is anticipated to premiere in 2028.
