Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu completed 25 days in cinemas and collected over Rs 175 crore in Tamil Nadu and more than Rs 304 crore worldwide, cementing its position as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2026.
On June 8, Prime Video announced that Karuppu would premiere on the platform on June 12. "God mode ON #KaruppuOnPrime, June 12 (sic)," read the caption.

The film's arrival on OTT comes as a surprise to some fans, many of whom expected its theatrical run to continue given its sustained performance at the box office. Positive word of mouth and favourable reviews from critics helped the film maintain momentum well beyond its opening week.
How did Karuppu perform at the box office?
Karuppu hit theatres on May 15, a day later than originally planned, after facing last-minute delays linked to pending financial settlements involving the production. Despite the setback, the film opened strongly and quickly established itself as a major commercial success.
The film also ended a prolonged dry spell at the Tamil Nadu box office and went on to rewrite several records. Within four days of release, Karuppu surpassed the lifetime collections of Singam 2 to become the highest-grossing film of Suriya's career. It later crossed the worldwide earnings of films such as Mersal, Petta and Thunivu, entering the Rs 200 crore club within eight days.
