Lock Upp 2: Madhuri Grover faces backlash over 'rich should have more kids' remark
On Lock Upp 2, Madhuri Jain Grover spoke about wanting a third child and made a remark linking childbirth to wealth and poverty. The comment drew sharp criticism online, overshadowing the episode's eviction and Kangana Ranaut's guest appearance.

Lock Upp 2 contestant Madhuri Jain Grover has landed in controversy after her comments about wealth and having children sparked strong reactions online. The remarks came during the latest episode of the reality show, where contestants were asked to reveal personal truths in a bid to save themselves from elimination.
Madhuri, the wife of businessman Ashneer Grover, shared that she and her husband had once wanted to have a third child. However, she said their families were against the idea, and by the time they reconsidered the decision, it was too late.
While speaking about it, Madhuri said, "The third child keeps you younger. If you see all the rich people, including Shah Rukh Khan, they have a third child. This concept of 'Hum do humare do' doesn't apply to everyone. Jitne ameer log bacche paida karenge toh ameeri badhegi, gareeb paida karenge to gareebi badhegi (The 'Hum Do Hamare Do' (two-child norm) doesn't apply to everyone. If the wealthy have children, wealth increases; if the poor have children, poverty increases)."
She went on to explain that she meant more children born into wealthy families would increase wealth, while more children born into poor families would lead to greater poverty.
The comments quickly went viral, drawing criticism from viewers on social media. One user wrote, "Shame on Madhuri Ashneer Grover. Her statement is elitism at its ugliest, reducing human beings to their bank balance and implying that dignity, family and the right to reproduce belong only to the rich. So, exploitation by the wealthy is never the problem, only the existence of the poor is."
Another user commented, "Nepotism is very cruel." A third wrote, "Madam, why is there economic inequality in the first place? Because the system is rigged in favour of the rich. FYI, the rich consume way more."
Several viewers also questioned the lack of an immediate response from the hosts.
The episode also marked the return of Kangana Ranaut, who hosted the show's first season. Appearing as a special guest, she interacted with the contestants and encouraged them to step up their game. The episode also saw Shreshta Iyer become the first contestant to be evicted from Lock Upp 2.
