Actor Mukesh Khanna, who was among comedian Samay Raina’s sharpest critics during the India’s Got Latent row, is now sharing screen space with him in a new advertisement. The collaboration has surfaced just as the show has returned with a new season.

The video, shared by the 28-year-old Raina on Instagram, turns their real-life friction into its central hook. Khanna, 68, keeps up a stern tone while Raina responds with jokes. The exchange then moves from barbs about the controversy to a promotion for a mobile phone.

In the clip, Raina is first seen speaking on the phone and says, “Thanks, yaar (friend). The show is returning now. As they say, darkness doesn’t prevail for long.” Moments later, Shaktimaan arrives in his trademark style, prompting a surprised Raina to ask, “What are you doing on my roof, sir?”

Khanna replies, “Teri tedhi dumm seedhi karne ayaa hu (I have come to fix you), Samay Raina.” Raina then asks him to come downstairs, saying he is scared to be on a roof with Shaktimaan. Khanna follows it up with another jibe, saying, “After three FIRs, you don’t seem to have learnt a lesson. We will have to paint your face black.” He also takes aim at Raina’s comedy and tells him, “You live in India, but your jokes are American style.”

The banter continues as the clip shifts to the product plug, with Raina introducing the phone they are promoting together. He then manages to make Khanna laugh at one of his jokes and, as Khanna leaves, Raina says, “Sorry, Shaktimaan.”

What was the feud all about?

The ad comes after months of sharp remarks from Khanna after Raina was booked in multiple FIRs over a distasteful comment made on India’s Got Latent.

Khanna compared him to a dog’s tail in an Instagram post and said Raina had returned despite being criticised across the country. He also said the comedian should have his face blackened, be made to sit on a donkey and be paraded through cities because, in his view, he had insulted Shaktimaan.

The tension rose again after Raina referred to Khanna and Shaktimaan in his stand-up special Still Alive, where he also used the line “Sorry Shaktimaan”. In that special, Raina addressed India’s Got Latent controversy for the first time and spoke about the fallout after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s incest joke led to the show’s shutdown and multiple FIRs.

After Raina announced India’s Got Latent 2, Khanna told Hindustan Times that the show should not be allowed to return. He said platforms should not permit what he described as obscene content and questioned how “below-the-belt jokes” and open abuse were being given space. He also criticised viewers who laughed at such material, adding, “Even a joke has a limit. No one must be hurt.”

Khanna further said he was shocked that Raina was speaking confidently about a second season after the backlash to the first. In another interview with Zoom, he also criticised the audience, saying popularity did not make such content right and accusing creators of corrupting young viewers for money.

India’s Got Latent returned on Saturday with a new season. Its first episode featured actors Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, who appeared on the show to promote their upcoming movie Alpha. Raina had said the new season would have cleaner content, and the first episode reflected that.

The response, however, was mixed. Some social media users said he seemed “too guarded and filtered”, while others praised him for pulling up an audience member over an inappropriate remark about women.

India’s Got Latent Season 2 is available on Raina’s YouTube channel and on Netflix India.
