Actor Riteish Deshmukh had a sharp response for a reporter during the launch of Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa in Mumbai. The question referenced Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt's past legal controversies and asked whether he would like to see them as contestants on the reality show.

Deshmukh was present at the event on Monday alongside Farah Khan, producer Ektaa Kapoor and Netflix India's Vice President of Content, Monika Shergill, to unveil the upcoming season of the reality series.

During the press interaction, a journalist asked whether he would like to invite Salman and Sanjay as contestants on the show.

The media personnel asked, “Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt are your closest friends. Both have a lot of experience of lock up. So, would you like to get them in Netflix’s Lock Upp? And how would you punish them?”

The remark visibly irked Riteish, who responded, “Sabse pehle mujhe nahin lagta hai ki aapke sawal ka jawab deke main usko koi dignity dena chahunga (First of all, I don't think I'd like to dignify your question by answering it).”

When the reporter pressed further, asking if he would consider inviting the actors onto the show, Riteish clarified that he has no role in deciding who enters the competition.

“I’ll not bring them as my duty is to host. And as a host, I don’t know about the inmates that would appear on the show. Jo bhi guests aate hai Lock Upp mein, unse hum baat karte hai (We speak to every guest who comes on Lock Upp),” he said.

The question stemmed from the actors' past legal cases. Salman Khan was sentenced to five years in prison in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, while Sanjay Dutt served a jail term after being convicted under the Arms Act in connection with illegal weapons linked to the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

About Lock Upp

The second season of Lock Upp, titled Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa, marks a significant shift for the franchise. While Kangana Ranaut hosted the inaugural season in 2022, the new chapter will be led by Riteish Deshmukh and Farah Khan.

The show will feature 14 celebrity contestants living together as inmates in a controlled jail-like setup, where they will face tasks, shifting alliances and high-pressure situations while cut off from the outside world.

At the Mumbai launch, the makers also revealed the first three contestants of the season. Actor Ram Kapoor was announced as the first inmate, followed by Shivangi Joshi and Pamala Serena.

After debuting on ALTBalaji and MX Player, Lock Upp is now moving to Netflix through a collaboration between the streaming giant and Ektaa Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms. The reality series is scheduled to premiere on June 27.
