Actor Uorfi Javed has shared glimpses from her visit to the revered Kamakhya Temple, days after firmly denying viral claims that she had converted to Hinduism. The 30-year-old actor posted a series of pictures on Instagram, showing herself offering prayers at the temple, with the visit quickly drawing fresh attention online.
In the photos, Uorfi was seen dressed in a lime green kurta paired with a pink dupatta covering her head and a red ceremonial stole around her shoulders. The temple visit comes shortly after social media was flooded with claims alleging that Uorfi had embraced Hinduism and changed her name to Rita Bhardwaj. The rumours gained momentum after a journalist shared a video making the claims while also commenting on her fashion choices and public image.
Uorfi was quick to dismiss the speculation through her Instagram Stories. Refuting the reports, she clarified that she had neither converted to any religion nor changed her name. She also reiterated that she does not believe in any religion.
Responding to the video, Uorfi wrote, “Kaise kaise chomu log apne aap ko journalist bolte hai! Aunty please thoda homework kar lijiye, I never changed my name or religion also. I don't believe in any religion. (Such stupid people call themselves journalists. Aunty, please do your homework) (sic).”
She added, “Also I'm not just nangi with my clothes I'm also nangi with my words but aaj mood nahi hai. Also ek baar google karlo how many shows I have to my names, mujhe aapka ganda make up dekh k sharam aa gayi or aapki journalism pe. Burai karni hai karo bindaas, but don't spread fake news cause I can't do the same to you cause no one cares aunty ji. (I am not just bare with my clothes, but with my words too. But I’m not in the mood for it today. Once Google to see how many shows I’ve done. I am ashamed of your bad makeup and your journalism. If you want to badmouth, do it) (sic).”
Earlier, social media influencer Faizan Ansari had also claimed that Muslims had decided to expel Uorfi from Islam and rename her Geeta Bharadwaj.
Uorfi calls reports 'baseless'
Speaking exclusively to IANS, Uorfi described the reports as completely baseless. "I myself left the religion long ago. Who is making these things up now?" she said.
Addressing the rumours surrounding her alleged name change, she added, "Who said this? There is no such report. They are making it up on their own. I don't follow any religion. I am an atheist. So where will you get me out of? How would you get somebody out of a place they don't exist in the first place!"
While Uorfi's latest Instagram post focuses solely on her spiritual visit to the Kamakhya Temple, it has once again sparked discussions online, with many linking the visit to the recently debunked conversion rumours.
