The incident has reportedly sparked massive public outrage and protests across the region. The Bihar government, on June 20, ordered an enquiry into the alleged extrajudicial killing.

India Today Fact Check found that this video is from Rajasthan’s Pali district, and shows the funeral procession of a local journalist called Govind Sen.

OUR PROBE

Reverse-searching frames from the video led us to this Instagram account named Nimaj_vala, which shared the video on March 10. This made it clear that the video predates the Bharat Bhushan Tiwari case.

India Today Fact Check spoke to Hanuman Gehlot, the man who runs the account. He rejected the viral claims and said that this video was from Nimaj town in the Pali district of Rajasthan. It showed the funeral of a local journalist called Govind Sen. He said he had recorded the video himself.

Gehlot had also posted several other videos from the funeral on his Instagram account. Govind Sen was associated with Jankari TV. Thus, it is clear that this video is being shared with false claims.

Another video claiming to show Bharat Bhushan Tiwari’s funeral is also going viral on social media. In the video, a large crowd is seen gathered in a rural area. One person on X wrote, “The crowd at the cremation ground tells us what a person has earned. Bharat Tiwari has been murdered at the direction of corrupt leaders.”

However, reverse-searching frames from the video led us to an Instagram post from June 4 featuring the same clip. Thus, this video also predates Tiwari’s police killing on June 17, and is therefore unrelated. We, however, were unable to find more information about it.
