Fact Check: FALSE communal angle given to old video of history-sheeters in fight
Baleshwar Reddy stabbed Roshan Kumar Singh in public view in Hyderabad in November 2025. The video does not show a Hindu man stabbing a Muslim man.
A video of a public stabbing has been widely shared with the claim that a Hindu man attacked a Muslim man. Sharing the video, an X user wrote, “A Muslim man was brutally stabbed to death in a public place by Hindutva mobs on suspicion of being in a love relationship with a Hindu girl, which they name 'Love Jihad'.” Its archive can be viewed here.
India Today Fact Check found that both the attacker and the victim were Hindus. There was no communal angle to the 2025 incident.
OUR PROBE
Reverse-searching keyframes from the video led us to several Telugu-language news reports from November 2025 that featured screenshots of the clip. According to reports published in NT News and Vidhaatha on November 5, 2025, the accused, Baleswar Reddy, and the victim, Roshan Kumar Singh, were both history-sheeters. The attack reportedly happened over a financial dispute.
We then found a report about it published by The Hindu on November 5, 2025. According to the daily, both men had a long rivalry. And on that day, Baleswar Reddy hacked Roshan Kumar Singh to death at the Jagadgirigutta bus stop in Hyderabad, Telangana.
Reddy, accompanied by his associates Mohammad and Adi, assaulted Roshan with a sharp weapon before fleeing the spot. Balanagar ACP, P Naresh Reddy, told the paper that the two men had been at odds over control of prostitution networks operating in the locality.
Police initially registered an attempted murder case. However, when Roshan Kumar Singh died while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital, they altered the charges to murder.
Speaking to India Today Fact Check, Jagadgirigutta SHO B Venkatesham confirmed that both Reddy and Roshan were Hindu. He confirmed that there was no communal angle to the incident. He said: “The fight between the two was related to many petty issues, including dominance over prostitution networks.”
India Today Telangana’s correspondent, Abdul Basheer, also confirmed that there was no communal angle related to the incident.
Thus, we concluded that viral claims are false.
