Fact Check: India-Israel-US flags burnt in Iran? This clip is from Pak
The video is originally from Karachi, Pakistan, and was shot in June.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Bihar Governor Lt Gen (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain will represent India at the state funeral of Iran's former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Tehran on July 4. A video, allegedly from Iran, that’s now going viral shows a crowd burning India, the US, and Israel’s flags.
This video was shared with captions like, “Why are Iranians burning Indian flag along with Israeli and American flags? It's true that Jaishankar has ruined the foreign policy, and this is the result of his failure. Because of the BJP, the world is hating us.”
Another post said, “The shocking burning of the Indian Tricolour during recent public protests in Tehran has sparked serious concerns regarding Iran's respect for its strategic ally. Despite years of India's diplomatic support and public advocacy, this direct disrespect heavily contradicts positive geopolitical narratives and highlights deeply strained public sentiment.”
India Today Fact Check, however, found that the video is actually from Karachi, Pakistan, and was shot in June.
OUR PROBE
We reverse-searched the video's frames, and the results led us to a YouTube Short dated June 27, 2026. The caption of the video noted that the burning of these flags took place in Karachi during a pro-Iran protest.
We then found a higher-resolution version of this video in a Reddit post, where a multi-story building in the background was clearly visible.
We found the same multi-story building on Google Maps Street View. It’s located on Muhammad Ali Jinnah Road, Central Jacob Lines, Karachi. A comparison makes it evident that the location was in Pakistan.
The viral video also featured posters and banners in English and Urdu. The English text said “Blood Donation Camp”, and the banner in Urdu translated to “Imamia Students Organisation”.
We searched for these keywords and found a Facebook post on the “Imamia Blood Transfusion & Medical Services” page. This post featured a photograph with an identical Blood Donation Camp banner.
The “ISO Karachi” Facebook page was also tagged in a clip uploaded by the page “IMC — Karachi Region” on June 25. This video was shot at the same location.
Around the 1-minute-12-second mark, we can see the three flags being burned. The video’s Urdu caption roughly translates to: “Some glimpses of Namaz during the central procession of 9 Muharram-ul-Haram.” The 9th of Muharram-ul-Haram was observed on Thursday, June 25, 2026, the same day that the video was posted.
Therefore, it is beyond doubt that the video is not from Iran, but from Karachi, Pakistan.
