India Today Fact Check found that both these incidents happened during the tenure of the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government led by MK Stalin.
The liquor shop incident
Many people responding to the viral post claimed that the video was from December 2025. Using this information, we refined our search and found the video posted on December 26, 2025, by the BBC on Facebook. According to the BBC’s report about this incident, a father and son attacked a TASMAC store employee in Coonoor, alleging that they sold liquor at a premium of Rs 10. Following this, the Coonoor police registered an FIR against the father and son and arrested them.
Reportedly, TASMAC employees used to charge Rs 10–20 more than the price fixed by the government. However, the new government has ordered strict action against the employees who charge more. The TASMAC employee union members have now written a letter to CM Vijay, alleging that the administrative costs of liquor shops are being imposed on employees.
The sickle video
Responding to the viral post, one person said that this video dates back to January. On looking further, we found that a Tamil news outlet called Tamil Janam had posted this video on January 22.
As per reports, this altercation took place on the busy Karur Bypass Road in Tiruchirappalli. It involved students from the AKKV school in the city. Following this incident, the Uraiyur police summoned both students and issued warnings.
Thus, it is clear that neither video was shot after Vijay assuming power in Tamil Nadu.
