According to police, Nagendra and the woman, an OT technician in Bengaluru, were previously in a relationship but had recently separated. Investigators said the woman had blocked Nagendra's phone number following personal differences.

Police alleged that Nagendra confronted the woman at her rented accommodation in Bengaluru's Jayanagar on Saturday morning after an argument and forcibly took her away in a yellow-board Uber cab. Following her disappearance, her parents filed a kidnapping complaint at the Jayanagar Police Station.

During the journey towards Ankola, Nagendra allegedly threatened to kill her before taking his own life. Police suspect he was carrying an explosive device, which he allegedly showed to the woman during the trip.

The terrifying journey reached its climax near Jogihalli when Nagendra allegedly attacked the woman with a knife inside the moving vehicle. The driver immediately stopped the cab, allowing her to unlock the door and leap to safety.

Within moments, a powerful explosion ripped through the vehicle, engulfing it in flames. Nagendra was trapped inside and burnt alive before help could arrive. The explosion also triggered a traffic jam stretching for over a kilometre on the busy highway.

Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok K.V. said preliminary findings indicate that Nagendra was carrying an explosive device and appears to have deliberately triggered the blast. Police recovered bomb-like explosive material from the vehicle and have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact nature of the explosive, how it detonated, and where it was procured.

The Kallambella police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation into the sequence of events leading to the deadly explosion.
